Greenspirit Farm is a family owned and family run vegetable and small fruit farm located on State Highway 23 a few miles north of Dodgeville, Wisconsin. We market our produce through an 80 member CSA, through sales from our website, and through local restaurants and stores.
The farm centers around community involvement and personal connections, and the work of many local people contribute to the success of each season. We voluntarily followed the federal organic standards for our first 8 years, with community participation substituting for formal organic certification. However, in response to many factors, we were federally certified organic in 2008, and continue to maintain that certification. We welcome you and your family and friends to come and to visit us anytime.
A beautiful insect diversity enriches the farm.
We consider our land to be a member of our family and a place of inspiration. We farm the land guided and disciplined by its ecology. So, we work to provide healthy, vital, living food; we work to create a landscape marked by high plant and insect diversity, and good soil; we work to create a beautiful farm.
Our trust in the land community means that we improve our living soil with cover crops and crop rotations. It means that we avoid the use of chemicals and all other inputs not allowed under the federal organic standards.
We plant and maintain habitat strips for flowers and insects to improve species diversity on the farm and to control insect problems better. We grow heirloom varieties to preserve genetic variety and purchase open-pollinated, certified organic seed from small democratically managed businesses whenever possible.
