Greenspirit Farm

 Better Tasting, Better-For-You Produce

Shares we work for you, you make Greenspirit possible...thank you

Many individuals and families connected with the farm buy and maintain a membership, or share, commonly called a “CSA” share.  They pay for a season’s worth of produce during the late winter, and we, the farmers, either provide weekly boxes of produce, or maintain a credit for them, to be used at our markets.  This arrangement greatly helps both us and you, the shareholder.  It helps us by providing a secure income (cold, rainy days at market are not a good feeling!); the payment upfront means that we have sold our crop before the season starts.  It helps the shareholder by reducing the price of the produce; the shareholder (that’s you!) assumes some of the risk of the season, and the farmer appropriately lowers the price of the season’s harvest.  The shareholders become an integral part of the farm with the farmer, without ever having to get dirty (although you are always invited to do so!). Everybody has a stake in the success of the season, and the season becomes a community endeavor, rather than the solitary pursuit of one family.

Hayrides and pumpkins at the fall party! What fun!

How do Shares work?

At the beginning of the season you pay for about five months of fresh, locally grown produce.  Then on a weekly basis, from late May through early October, we provide you with a variety of our produce which has been cleaned and sorted for your health and enjoyment.

Greenspirit Farm’s most popular share is our standard size, about the size of a paper grocery bag, provided weekly for a seasonal rate of $400.  Families that enjoy a larger diet of vegetables purchase our grand size, closer to two bag’s worth, also provided weekly for a seasonal rate of $600.

In addition to our regular shares, we offer spring and winter shares.  The spring share begins the middle of April and runs for the next six weeks.  It consists primarily of salad and hearty greens, early herbs, asparagus, radishes, rhubarb and some long storage foods like onions and carrots.  It is a wonderful way to greet spring in Wisconsin! These sell out early, so act quickly!

The winter share has three pick ups. The first is at the end of October, the second in mid November (the weekend before Thanksgiving) and the third in mid-December.  Winter shares include mostly hearty greens, then long storage food such as carrots, cabbage, sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, beets, potatoes, radishes and winter squash.  You may choose just the first two boxes which are intended to keep you in local veggies until December, or you may choose all three boxes which should provide enough food to last through winter. This is a wonderful option for those attempting to eat both seasonally and locally as much of the year as possible.

We want you to come to the farm, to see the growth of your crops.  We hold numerous volunteer days, so, if you wish, you and your family can come and try your hand at farming.  We offer the opportunity to reduce the price of your share in exchange for 5 hours of labor on the farm. We also offer four workshares (a half share in exchange for 4 hours of labor each week from June through September.)
